Kerry Homstead, EdD

Kerry has worked within community-based organizations for over 4 decades, engaged with a wide array of system, individual, family and community issues, initiatives and disparities.  From providing direct services, to facilitating groups, to holding leadership and management positions, her work has embraced empowerment and collaboration, focusing largely on youth, young parents, foster care, sexual abuse and domestic violence.

Seeking new approaches to long established issues, Kerry was privileged latterly in her career to work for the Treehouse Foundation treehousefoundation.org which is dedicated to ReEnvisioning Foster Care in America (REFCA). She served in a primary role as Community Facilitator in the development, implementation and operation of the first Treehouse Community.

Treehouse is a highly recognized intentional intergenerational community model, bringing older adults together with families providing permanency for children who have experienced foster care in a supportive, connected neighborhood where all generations can thrive and live in affordable housing.

Kerry’s role extended to other Treehouse initiatives including cross sector collaboration, consulting on the model, national ReEnvisioning Foster Care conferences and regional programming development.  Now in the process of ending her tenure with Treehouse, Kerry has been serving there as a Senior Advisor.

In addition to these activities, Kerry has served as Director of a national program (no longer in existence) studying alternative public schools housed at UMass Amherst, conducted qualitative research including coordinating a study of Casey Family Resource Centers, and developed and implemented a Health Education Program for young women affiliated with Smith College Summer Science Programs.
