Preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences
WE KNOW HOW CHILDHOOD TRAUMA IMPRINTS FOR A LIFETIME THANKS TO A BRILLIANT PEDIATRICIAN
In 2011, I read a New Yorker article by Paul Tough, “Moral Medicine”, about a visionary pediatrician named Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, who ran a health clinic in San Francisco. From that moment on, I have been been a huge fan of Dr. Harris and her important work with the prevention of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES).
Over the past 15 years, she has become known for:
Her TED Talk.
Her Childhood Wellness Clinic in the Bay Area.
Her book, “The Deepest Well”.
Becoming the first Surgeon General of California.
Leading the ACE Resource Network.
One of the reasons we are so excited to bring the 100% New Mexico Community model to Massachusetts is that NM Senator William Soules & 100% NM co-founders, Dr. Katherine Ortega Courtney & Dominic Cappello are also huge fans of Dr. Harris. They have inspired the NM state legislature to invest in statewide ACE prevention work via the groundbreaking 100% New Mexico model. 100% New Mexico is a stellar public health model that is helping reduce ACES, heal families & build seamless systems of family well-being resources. It is an honor for 100% MA to introduce it to the Commonwealth.
